4x4 shifter won't stay in gear

Howdy folks, I was hoping someone might be able to offer some advice.
I have an '03 2500 QC with a 5.9L HO with an NV5600 and my problem is when using 4hi I have to hold the transfer case lever back in the 4hi position to keep it in gear, the moment I let off pressure, it slides into 2hi. Also on occasion when driving in 2hi the shifter migrates to the Neutral position. I don't have any "click" confirmation when I am in 4lo-N-2hi-4hi, it is as if a spring indent should hold the shifter in gear but mine isn't functioning properly. I just replaced the transfer case linkage bushings due to the linkage dropping loose on one side, but this problem predates the bushing change.
Thanks in advance!
Luke

Which transfer case do you have? It will be on a red and silver tag on the transfer case.

First thought would be that the linkage is not adjusted properly.

That happened to me and like madhat said, my linkage was not adjusted right. I readjusted it and all was fine.

ADJUSTMENT - SHIFT LEVER
(1) Move shift lever into 2H position.
(2) Raise vehicle.
(3) Loosen shift rod lock bolt at trunnion.
(4) Check shift rod fit in trunnion. Be sure rod
does not bind in trunnion. Lubricate the shift rod
and trunnion if necessary.
(5) Verify that transfer case shift lever is in 2H
detent position. The 2H detent position on the transfer
case shift arm is the second position from full forward.
(6) Align the adjustment locating hole on the lower
shifter lever with the adjustment channel on the
shifter bracket assembly
(7) Insert an appropriately sized pin through into
the adjustment channel and through the locating
hole to hold the shifter in the correct position.
(8) Tighten shift rod lock bolt to 10 N·m (90 in.
lbs.) torque.
(9) Remove the locating pin from the adjustment
channel and locating hole.
(10) Check shift linkage operation. Be sure transfer
case shifts into and operates properly in all
ranges.
