48RE Shift points?
48RE Shift points?
I towed my trailer for the first time with my 2004.5 Ram 2500 Quad cab, 4x4, cummins 600.
I notice when towing in overdrive the transmission slides prettly slowly into gear when it shifts.
Is it possible to have the dealership program more agressive shifting? It seems like the slow shifting would be much harder on the tranny.
What I took to doing is putting the truck into tow/haul mode when I stop. Then once I get up to about 55 mph I let completely off the throttle and take it out of tow/haul. I wait until the tranny fully shifts and then I step on the throttle again.
In any case, I think I'd prefer more agressive shifting versus that slow slide into gear.

my tranny does the same thing. I do what you do when pulling my trailer, start out with O/D off and after you get up to 55 or so I ease up a little bit and put it into O/D and then take it on up to speed. Does yours rev up just a bit just before going into O/D? Just courious what rear axle ratio do you have?
I have the 3.73 axle. Pulling a 16 foot enclosed cargo trailer weighing about 5000 pounds.
It does rev slightly before it shifts. Also, on ocassion it feels like it doesn't fully engage until I step on the throttle. I found if you put it on O/D below 55 mph it downshifts and them almost immediately goes back into O/D.
I don't know that much about trannys, but it seems to me like a more aggressive shift would eliminate some slipping and unecessary wear.

I think what you might be feelin is your torque converter lock up which is normal. Most importantly when pulling your trailer hold out of O/D a little longer with my 4:10's I will let it go into O/D at about 60 mph.
