Is it a 47re in a 03 standard hp model?

Which trans in my 03 non HO engine 4x4? A 47 or a 48? rh or re? Just curious if anyone knows or are there different models installed? how to identify?

i believe it is the build date of the truck....I have an SO Calif truck with a 47re that was built in oct 02 and I believe it was feb 03(I may be wrong!) that the 48re came into play...

If it's an SO engine then it'll definitely be the 47RE. You can confirm this by looking on the label inside your glove compartment.

My truck was built Jan 19th 2003 and it has the 48re and it is a SO. Your best bet is to take the VIN to the parts dept of your dealer and have them run a spec sheet on the truck 3 pages of everything your truck has.

Dodgezilla 12-14-2005 05:55 PM

If you have an HO/Auto you definitely have a 48RE. SOs came with 47RE until they were all used up and then they started coming with the 48RE.

Lokin4deer is correct I have an SO with a 48re transmission housing :D . ks

The only thing my tag in glove box says is it is a 4 speed auto trans. There are code letters but how to Identify them?

Hannibal 12-15-2005 06:17 PM

If you stop by your service dept and ask for a build sheet for your truck's vin#, you'll get two or three sheets of everything your truck is made of. I got it on my '03. They didn't charge me for it and it only took a couple of minutes.
FWIW, my two 47RE's were trouble free except for a shorted governor pressure sensor/solenoid. Replaced under warranty. If you're running stock power and ATF+4, I wouldn't worry about it. The 47 is a good tranny.

My previous truck was an '03 S.O. with a 48.

Dodgezilla 12-16-2005 11:18 AM

Please refer to my previous post...... ;)

All HO/autos had 48re's
Some SO/autos came w/ 47re's and some later ones had 48re's....

Tundra Maggot 12-17-2005 02:32 PM

ditto..

03 SO with 48re. Build date Jan 24 2003

ataboy9026 12-17-2005 04:07 PM

And how to identify? Are the trans pans different shapes? If it is a 47 will the pan look like my 95? is there any tag or plate on trans anywhere?

INsIdious 12-18-2005 09:35 AM

There was a post somewhere on here a while back concerning this. The poster said something about the number of wires on the plug in on the tranny. If memory serves me, i believe he said 3 wires on the harness was a 47 and 4 wires was a 48.

Tundra Maggot 12-19-2005 04:21 PM

shoot, I forget the code, but it is listed inside the glove box... one of the codes.

bubba33 12-19-2005 06:25 PM
