Re:4" Exhaust
Hello to everyone,

I am very interested in this exhaust system. I am always looking for performance gains where I can get them and the exhaust is the best place to start.
I have read all of your replies and still have a few questions though. It isn’t obnoxiously loud is it? The last truck I had was a 2002 ram with a 360 and flowmaster exhaust on it. It was “ridiculously” loud
. One of the main reasons that I bought the 2003 cummins was because they quieted it down so much (and because it is the best truck on the market!!!). Also I see where one of you had to cut one of the pipes. I was under the impression that this was an easy swap with no cutting involved.
Lastly what kind of mileage improvements have you guys seen with the new exhaust?

Thank you for your time and keep on truckin!!!! ;D ;D ;D

I also cut the end of the tail pipe off cause it stuck out to far, you can slide the tip on and hide it, but it looks better to cut it off. I have the tip stuck out further then the stock was also to keep the side of the truck clean.[/quote]

You had to cut one of the mid pipes that they sent in the kit? I acutally had to use the long one in order for mine to fit correctly. I see that you're running a quad cab, long bed, where I'm just a quad cab. I wonder what the difference is? I hate that your install wasn't as painless as mine was.

Yeah, it's not obnoxiously loud to me, and that's what I was shooting for. Something I could ride around with and not have to worry about yelling at my passengers.
As far as sound goes. To tell you the truth I was expecting it to be much louder then it is. At an idle their is very little change. Cruising down the road if you turn the radio off you can tell it is a little louder in the back, but not much at all. When you get on it their is more of a diesel sound to it for sure. I am happy with it, just was expecting louder is all.
I don't think it's too loud at all. To quantify what I consider loud, I hang out at drag races quite a bit, and I think that very few cars (with mufflers, mind you) are loud. I've a friend with a Corvette that drones like mad...that's too loud.

I just made a weekend trip to a Viper race that a friend of mine was particiapting in, and on the way to and from the venue at ~80mph on the interstate, I never got drone or what I thought was too loud. My passenger thought the same as I.

I didn't have to do any cutting to get the new system. I'm kind of surprised to see that Mopar Mudder had to. Makes me wonder if mine was a fluke or if his was the fluke. I've got a friend that installed the same kit on his Dollarmax. I need to ask him if he had to cut anything to get it on. Either way, I think it was easy enough on and off to not get too worked up over.

I've only run 1 full tank of fuel and haven't seen any significant gains. However, I cruise the interstate at 80mph or there abouts, so I don't really expect to see the best mileage in the world.

Re:4" Exhaust
The instructions said I had to use both mid pipes for the Long bed Quad cab. But together they were about 4" too long. Their was some writing in marker on the long pipe that was hard to read, but I think said "shorten for quad cab". It was no big deal because I have a metal chop saw and all the tools I would ever need, just wasn't expecting it.

Morning Dodge Boys,

Been following this thread as a reader only and also following this site as a Dodge specialists site. I wanted to help clear up a few things to help you guys on some questions and also get with the moderators and or owners here to start an advertising campaign here !

The reason Mopar Mudder had to cut his intermediate pipe is we had some of the 24 valve Dodge intermediate system pipes got incorrectly placed in the 2003 common rail packages. In fact the employee that did it wrote on the pipes that it would need to be shortened to fit the Quad Cab models! Needless to say we have corrected that employee "idea" and got it corrected. You know how it is if you have people involved there's gonna be problems!!! We apologize to Mopar Mudder for the extra effort he went to, LineraX you had a long bed so it worked OK as is and you didn't have to cut it, lucky you!
TCB's loundnes issue is still a myslery to us at DPPI. We've shipped approx 100 of the 2003 systems and have had one other than TCB say it was too loud. Everyone else has been real pleased with the volume and tone to date. I still think there is a specific issue with these two trucks but TCB and I have been down all the roads we can to make sure his is installed correctly and it's still louder than he wants to hear. So in the interest of customer satisfaction we have sent another muffler for him to try out and see if it clears up the problem for him.
Anyway look for us to be here as an advertiser member ASAP as I'm contacting the site to run a banner today. We appreciate your support and invite any questions you might have. Some of the best ideas we get are from customers.

Sincerely,
Mark Craig
Diesel Performane Parts Inc.
Re:4" Exhaust
Thanks for the reply Mark it is great to see you on here.

As for me having to cut a pipe it really was no big deal to me at all. Being a business owner and working with the public and employees myself I know where you are coming from. Unforunately you can't do everything yourself and have to hire people to do it for you

I am happy with the system and would recomend it to anyone, other then cutting one pipe everything fit great. I haven't pulled anything with it yet to see how it sounds. It does make a little "drone" when you put the power to it, but quiets right down when you are cruising.

Re:4" Exhaust
Hey Mark something else I was thinking of calling you guys about. Do you offer a muffler elimilator pipe with the hanger brackets on it? I am half tempted to try it and see how it sounds, think I might want just a little more noise.
Re:4" Exhaust
t-7 don't be afraid of the noise, i am getting used to it and really only notice drone when really putting fuel to the motor or when it pulls a hill, then i do wonder if i made the right decision, but i think it is just me, everyone else seems very pleased and i am just pleased. would i do it again, yes and with the same system even, mark at dpp has tried to help me out as best he can and that matters as much as anything.

I don't know if there was an issue with the lengths of those pipes for my setup or not. However, cutting it would have been a easy enough. I'm just glad I didn't have to. Either way, I'm a tickle with it as I can be. I got to hear the same kit on my pal's Dollarmax the other day and it sounds kill on his as well. Thanks for an excellent product. I'ma still have to ride up that way so I can check out your operation. I actually passed that way this past weekend going to watch a Viper race in Bowling Green.
Re:4" Exhaust
Mopar Mudder,

Yes we do but it doesn't have the hangers on it as the weight of the muffler is the only reason they are on it to begin with. It's expanded on each end and just slips on and clamps down.

Mark
Re:4" Exhaust
For right now I am going to leave it alone. After doing some more driving I have found that although the sound level doesn't seem to loud in the truck, even with the windows down, that alot of sound is projected out their that you can't here in the truck. Drive down a city street with brick buildings on both sides pullin a load and you will know what I mean
Plus comments from people that have heard it said it is good, got the "semi" sound to it.

So untill I get bored with it I will leave well enough alone :
thanks for the offer though, very happy with the product.

Re:4" Exhaust
Could one of you guys take some pictures of the entire system installed....especially the tip? I'm curious...

I'm very interested in this system. Of course...there's no way my wife would approve it right now....but I can still dream.
