3rd Gen tranny concerns
3rd Gen tranny concerns
I currently have a 1st gen that is a standard cab. It is 2 wheel drive with AFE intake, bully dog fuel pin, and 4" exhaust. It is a 5 sp. Just took a trip to Yellowstone pulling my 26' travel trailer, and while it did okay, had to constantly monitor the temp gauge on hills.
So I am thinking of getting a 3rd gen. My buddy on the trip had a 2006 GMC. He did very well. I know the Allison is known for it's toughness. I have also had problems in mid 90's with a Dodge tranny. So I am just trying to get some ideas on how they are doing (Dodge) today. Any certain years I should look for.
I know I should get a 6 speed, but I want to be able to let others use the truck at times, and not as many of the younger gen have learned the art of shifting.

The 48RE is a great transmission. I had mine hold over 400 HP for well over 100,000 miles pulling up to 26,000 pounds gross.
If you want to make the 48RE better you need a new torque converter and you need higher pressures so a new valve body.
