3rd gear in a 03 6 speed?

I have a 03 3500 6sp CTD. While pulling my toyhauler(14500#) as soon as I shift into 3rd it goes fine for 3 seconds then acts is if something is slipping, shift into 4th,5th and 6th and everything is fine. Does anyone know what the problem is? Thanks

I've NEVER heard of this type of issue with the NV5600. In fact, the only problem you'll ever really hear about it shift quality-- problems with it are very rare.

What exactly do you mean by "acts like something's slipping"?

As soon as you shift from 2nd to 3rd, while in third when you give any amount of peddle the rpm's rise and you feel 3rd slip, just as a clutch slip is felt.

Hard to believe it's slipping in third gear. Clutches usually slips in the higher gears. Have you tried turning off the Edge? Could be the Edge doing it's torque limiting.

Yes, I went from tow #2 to mileage#1 and then 0 stock.
Same slippage felt at all 3 levels. Anybody?

Is the transmission slip/defueling jumper settings correct for your transmission/gear ratio?

Not sure, I have it set for manual transmission though. I didn't set any gear ratio setting.

Art,
This switch setting info is from the Edge manual for the defueling when detecting transmission slip.

x=off 1=on

Standard with 3.73

xx1 - Defueling on
x11 - Defueling off

Standard with 4.10

1x1 - Defueling on
111 - Defueling off

Thanks Mikey, further inspection of me looking under the truck I have found what seems to be engine oil on the bottom of the tranny bell housing, must be rear main I would assume. Second could that be a cause of the slip if the clutch is wet with oil?

I believe if the clutch material was contaminated with oil it would be slipping in every gear.
Check the valve cover gasket area for oil. Could be leaking from there and running down the back of the block. Common problem on the '03 trucks.

South Bend. But you are going to pay a pretty price.

It still ought to be slipping in 4th and 5th more than 3rd. In any case, I just priced some clutches from southbend. A good single disk would have run me about $1100. I opted for the Clutch Of Jesus, a dual disk rated to 650 hp, because I'm gonna put twins on it eventually. That setup was $2500 delivered. Now, that includes a new oversized flywheel, an oversized cryogenically treated input shaft, and a new clutch slave and master cylinder to reduce pedal pressure. Most likely, you won't need all of that stuff. Peter at southbend is very helpful, by the way.
