37" Tires

Just want some opinions here. My set up is a '04 Ram 2500 4X4, turbo diesel, 48RE automatic trans., 3.73 gears. I have been doing some reading thats making me worry a little. I just installed 37" BFG's on my truck. Tell me that a truck designed to pull the weight that this is capable of, should not have tranny/hub issues turning these tires. There seems to be a ton of knowledge on this web site and any info. will be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

You probably should have 4.10's with those tires...

But...I have tons of friends with 2nd gens 3.5 rear and 35's. They are in the same boat as you with even less power and they have had no issues.

Your best beat for drivability is to leave OD off till 60 with your set up. Or better yet...get all of the ATS goodies so you can control the way the tranny works. I have no problems with mine.

What lift and wheels are you running?

Should work real nice...

May have front driveline issues that can be resolved by lengthening the front driveshaft. Listen/feel for "wierd" vibrations or noises. Make sure the track bar bolts and front top shock nuts are super tight. I learned both the hard way.

One solution to steep gearing is a TST.

Post some pics.

37" tires with the 3.73 will give you a final ratio of less than 3.2:1. You would be alright with a manual trans, but your asking for trouble with a 48RE. With a torque converter upgrade you should be fine, but I bet you are shifting in and out of OD constantly with a very sluggish feel on acceleration.

I have driven a truck with those tires and a manual trans. It was definitely slow, but got good hwy fuel economy (20mpg at 75mph). the city economy was worse due to the rolling resistance (15mpg).

I have an '03 Cummins six speed 3.73 with a Tuff Country 6'' lift and 37'' BFG's. I drove from Salt Lake to Temecula CA and got 16.5 mpg. I'm getting 15.5 to 16 mpg now in the winter.
