there's a TSB on how to re-flash the ECM.

most dealers can't do it, even with the TSB.

the new ECM's come from Cummins blank, and the Tech has to know how to use the DRB3 to get in there.

if he can't talk to yours now, chances are he can't program the new (blank) one from DC.

keep us posted.

When I was in the dealer on Tuesday haveing some damage looked at by the sles manager, they had a truck in that they were not able to communicate with. Starting to sound like this happens more than occasionally?

Maybe I SHOULD keep the old first gen.

Was this after you installed a performance downloader or did it just happen overnight?

Mine did the exact same thing after I installed the Triple Dog. The code was no VIN found. Bully Dog was able to walk me through the process of using my Trip Dog to get it back and running without going to the dealer.

It's amazing how much more the aftermarket guys know than the techs at the dealership.

Didn't do Nuthin'..

Truck is Box stock.. This dealership is a new one.. pretty short of help, but sound like they imported a tech from Denver.. They told me today that Chrysler/Daimler put my truck on hold, not to let me have it til they figure it out.. (safety issue, don't you know) will be a week tomorrow. I got ahold of the owner of the dealership, and he told me to come in to get a loaner tomorrow.. I'll keep you'all posted.. Les

My truck did this over the winter. My dealer spent 25 hours and 2 weeks and came up with nothing. They kept telling me that because they could not communicate w/computer I have a bad wiring harness. I couldn't wait any longer with out a truck I traded it at another dealer. They fixed it in a week. It was two bad computers, pcm and ecm. They could not figure out why it did this so they wholesaled it. Good luck with your truck man.

Bad wireing harness????

Well, Bluesurf, obviously YOU weren't the one that intstalled that "bad" wireing harness.. isn't Dodge liable for anything?? SO, PUT A NEW WIREING HARNESS IN THE SOB!...they don't bat an eye when they tell you how much the truck costs when they sell it to you.. Now they're goin' all conservative???? (anybody catch the change in my mood??? ) Les

Still in the shop. Tech is back from Denver, and still sending codes, etc to STAR.. said they'll drive it around town and try to get it to do it again.. said the fan sensor is suspect.. ????? anyhow, they gave me a loaner CTD, a 02 with a six speed.. it'll have to do till they get my truck fixed.. I have been to 4 diff dealers now for minor stuff and good mechanics are few and far behind . The mechanics seem so poorly trained or they just don't care ........ who knows . I would be hopping mad if I were in your shoes brother and calling DC Corporate daily threatening action if it was me !!! I am not trying to flame anyone that works for a dealer because I know the b.s you have to deal with but passing the buck seems to be the norm . I really love it when they try to b.s you ,I am a certified Airframe / Powerplant mechanic and it makes my blood boil when they give you a total line because they are incompetent and can't diagnose and repair the prob . I have fought with 4 diff dealers about the sealed u -joints that have slung grease all over since day one and no dice ........ bone dry and starting to vibe now and it's normal !!!

Man, if I was you I'd be giving DC an ultimatum on the truck... "Have it back to me in perfect working order in a week, or refund my money back in full and I'll buy a new truck".

So far so good on my truck. Fingers crossed maybe?

Check the warranty service laws in your state. Generally they have up to 30 days to correct a warranty problem. Also, your warranty should be extended by the number of days that it was in the shop.

Dealership called thursday, said my truck was ready to go.. couldn't pick it up till Fri... took it up to my bear bait site that evening, 45 miles, returned with a five foot cinimon/blonde bear, got the tailgate all bloody.. Sat morning went in to G&F to check the bear in, truck quit while in town, was able to squeak it back to the dealer.. picked up loaner and came home.. (hope they wash it)... Les Hell, hope they KEEP it..

Now they have diagnosed a bad ECM.. ordered one and should be here Fri 6-2-06.. said they will have STAR program it over the phone somehow.. (remember when you could put a new set of points in the distributer, set 'em with a matchbook cover, and if necessary file 'em with your wifes fingernail board?? ) I've lived too long.. Les
