2K RPM Vibration Revisited

Not trying to rehash old memories, but I was curious as to how many still have vibe issues and how many miles have you put up with it.

My truck has had it from day one, still does,65K miles. The rear drive shaft and u-joints have been replaced,no change. The driveline pitch angle was changed(shims) and that moved the vibration to about 70-75 vs. 65 to 70. I just try to stay below 70 until I can trade, hopefully in 07

Mine has had the vibe since it hit 12K miles. 29K on it now. The dealer has attempted to fix it by doing everything you have had done to yours. During a visit to the dealer yesterday, my Cummins mecahnic friend asked me if I still had the vibe. "Yes". He said he found out what the vibe was coming from. It's in the lower part of the engine. Said he removed the oil pan from 4x4 after replacing the front axle and still not curing the vibe. He found that the rod and journal (I think)bearings were worn. Apparently from an out of round crank. Replaced the bearings and the vibe was gone. He stated that he had fixed five trucks, all with worn bearings, and the 2K rpm vibe went away. DC will not allow him to replace the crank! I asked him if it was still a 400K mile engine. He said yes, if you can live with the vibe.

Now theres a couple of things...replacing the bearings is only a band-aid with an out of round crank. Also, with mine, when I run with the OD off and hit 2k rpm's, I do not have a vibe....only vibes in OD at 65-75 mph. If the crank is the problem, why doesn't it vibe at 2k rpm standing still and while cruising out of OD?

I guess it's time to send an oil sample to Blackstone.
