2006 Coolant lost
 

I'm not familiar with the 2006 models but I received call from a friend here in Mexico, he is losing coolant but can't find a leak. I experienced the same with my 1999 with the 53 series engine. I was lucky because Dodge installed a new motor under warranty. Was the 53 series engine also used in 2006 models? Has anyone on this blog with a 2006 ever experienced coolant lost problems. Looking for feed back so I can advice my friend.

Have him check the small rubber hose behind the turbo that joins two pieces of pipe. It has a heat resistant covering, silver in color. The leak will show on the bottom of the transmission cover. The Anti Freeze in the 06 is red and when mine did it, it thought it was tranny fluid. Search on this site you'll find a picture of it.

[guitar]Hey Tony, CoastalDave is right. I recently hathe same problem and all I did was to tighten tha screw. It hasn't been leaking for 2 months now. I too believed it was tranny fluid, but it was actually coolant. Good luck.

Thank you for the feedback I did relay this info and currently waiting for my friend to crawl under his truck to check the hoses. I also asked him to join us on DTR.

I thought mine was the hose as well but ended up being the water pump housing would leak ever so slightly. Had to remove the air box to get a good look at it but under pressure i finally found it. Would drip towards the back of the compressor.

The other spot that it may be leaking is the small hose that goes from the radiator cap to the overflow bottle. The factory doesn't put a clamp on it and it will leak. Find a small spring loaded clamp that fits that hose and that will be cured.

Had both those with my 06, one other one is the screw in plugs just above the exhaust manifold, that seem to go into the head, one of mine was loose a bit and was weeping antifreeze, I tow a lot so she does warm up, anyways good luck

I've smelt anti frreeze from about the 1st year I've had mine, from time to time.
It has gone down in the overfell/resivoir bottle but not enough to add any.
I haver that same hose to replace, although there is no evidance of any leak anywhere.....

Yeah, it seems to be an 06 thing. Slight drip from the bottom of the bell housing.

Just snugging the clamps down cured it for me, but there is an updated hose with improved clamps.
