2004 Service 4WD ???

I cannot get my 4wd to engage. I have the "service 4wd" light on the dash. Fuse is not burnt. I climbed under the truck and checked the connector at the shift motor it looks clean. When i moved the connector/touched the shift motor it started cycling. It did this for a bit and then nothing. The lights on the selector came back on and cycled between 4wd and 2wd. The 4wd light stayed on for a while and then all the lights went out on the selector.

Can anyone tell me what is going on ? Shift motor ? Thanks

I also recommend you pull apart the connection plug for the electronic motor at the transfer case and clean up(wire brush/emery cloth) the connections as they may be oxidized. Apply the dialectric grease to the contacts before plugging it back together.
