2004 2500 Carrier Bearing rubber gone! 5 hours from home with a camper

I've got my wife and kids on Vac and wham, here a strange noise! Look under the truck and the drive shaft has slid back about 3in.

I'm 5-6 hours from home. The bearing seems to be intact with a plastic housing around it and the metal housing for the whole assembly is still intact just all the rubber is gone. The bearing seems to spin when I grab it so I've attached the platic part the the metal housing....I don't have a press in the truck so doing this myself before I tow home tomorrow isn't an option...

Anyone have any expencie with this horrible 2 peice drive shaft and will it hold up to get me home?

Currently in the Clearwater Florida area and headed back to Savannah Ga tomorrow.

I wouldn't drive it until it's fixed. You could do some very expensive damage. I would bring it to a shop and change the center bearing assembly, they are not expensive and labor is less than 2 hours.

You MIGHT be able to do a roadside fix by using strips of rubber (like tire tread) that you stuff into the gap and secure with either baling wire or zip ties…I did that on my truck when the center support bushing tore in a couple places and the fix lasted quite awhile beofer I replaced the whole 2 piece driveshaft sand center support with a Mopar one piece aluminum drivesahft and got rid o the POS center support assembly entirely.

That being said, NOTsure why your entire DS slipped backwards and if you DO a roadside fix, you would want to make sure that the driveshaft is back in place and then drive only slowly home, perhaps stopping and checking every 15 minutes or so…you do NOT want to have the DS separate and cause more damage!!!
