2003 Hard Start

Lately my 2003 HO takes 4-5 seconds of crank time to get started. Once or twice, it has died a few seconds after it has started.
Suspecting fuel supply issues, I looked into the lift pump. I bumped the starter (like I used to do after I changed the fuel filter) and did not hear the pump run.
Doesn't the lift pump usually run for at least a few seconds after the starter is bumped?
She sounds dead. Can the truck still run with a dead lift pump?

Thanks!
Dan

Yes it can. I suspected mine went out and got the dealer to check my codes and found that mine quit 84 key-ons ago. Got replaced with the in tank one under warranty. So if the pump quits in the right position, the truck will still run. Get the codes checked or do the 3 key-on - key-off to check to see if any codes show.
