2003 Believe melted piston help?

Ok, so this is my first post sorry for any errors.

I have a 2003 common rail 305/555 with closed adjustable elbow, arson 3 kit, edge ez, head studs, and a 4 in straight along with k and n. Before my troubles became noticeable whenever I shut the truck off it seemed like it wanted to keep running ( I thought leaking injector) so on my way to work the next morning cruising along engine up to operating temp I noticed a miss and small knock at 1500 rpm with some white smoke I was about 2 miles from work so I kept cruising at about 45mph in 6th about a mile down the road the truck really started shaking and smoking I immediately shut it off and towed it to the shop I work at it starts hesitantly smokes white like crazy and knocks. Any input would be greatly appreciated. I will try to get a video of it.

Being optimistic here, you could have a bad injector. Pull the dipstick and check level. If above full smell it for diesel.

You'll probably be okay. My friends early 04 hung an injector open twice and it survived. The 03-04 engines have better pistons that are slightly more forgiving. I would throw new injectors in and see what it does.

When his injectors hung what did it do?
Also what is my best option to go about on injectors I frequently use my truck for work am not interested in building a race truck just a reliable work truck. Im trying to get by with as little expense as possibile but not cheap on on junk.

You need to pull injectors and have them checked.
I send mine to F1. Ask people in your area where they send theirs might be someone closer to you. Then you need to find out if you
washed down a cylinder.

More info needed...

When it was shaking and a lot of white smoke, was the knocking a lot worse?

A melted piston can indeed cause the symptoms described as well as a hanging injector.

It is also possible, if combined with loud knocking, that a rod bearing (s) went south too.

When you pull the injectors, you can borescope the cylinders to detect a melted piston.

If not seen, you can pull the oil pan and check for bearing material or loose rod caps.

Hopefully, it is just an injector as that is the least expensive fix.

Replace the edge ez with something else. It is hard on injectors.

Thanks, the edge box is already gone! I believe just to be safe i will pull the engine out this weekend and thoroughly check everything and replace all seals and gaskets possibly even through in a set of 12 valve rods. I have another truck to drive for the time it takes. I have a book for all specs and some help if i need it, is there anything specific i should do or replace to make this job and my future any easier?
