Great tread and the E-rating is excellent. Did you get the standard 35,000 miles out of the 325/60/20's. like I see so often on other Toyo M/T's?

Pretty sure a smarty or other economy chip will help. I gained back most of the 2 mpg I lost going to 2857517s. I do 90% in town and get 14-15mpg. Thats babying it though with the occasional burst to quite the ricers. I used to get the same in a Jeep cherokee with a 1/3 the power. Cant complain too much.

ok the last two tanks have been right at 14.8 mpg. Thats with the superchips programmer set on economy, recalibrated for bigger tires and driving easy. I don't think that is too bad concidering the size of the truck and how much power it has..

Talking

Hand calculated or the guess-o-meter overhead?

That`s about what I get ....no matter HOW I drive the truck (in town)

FWIW, with the stock tires pulling a 7K trailer between Seattle & Portland (slight rolling terrain) at 65 ~ 70 mph I could get 12.1 mpg with the Puck set to stock and 12.3 with it on towing ("50"hp"?) while I would get about 20.3 empty -all hand calculated and the odometer within 2% of the mile markers along the freeway.

It seems slightly down and I don't know if it's the 15w-40 vs. the 5w-40 I was running or if the tranny is ready for another adjustment. I've only got 27k miles on the truck but I'm thinking a Transgo shift kit is in the near future.

My 05 gets 10-13 mpg. 17 mpg is the highest on Hwy, empty. before low sulfur fuel.

What rearend do you have 4.10 or 3.73. With a 4.10 your gonna get less mpg.

Rowj -
I got 45k out of the A/T's - and I was lazy about rotating them. They seemed to be good tires, but the M/T's are much better IMO.

I've got the 305/65/R17 and have 45,000 on them so far, rotating every 5,000 miles. They've got at least another 10,000 in them yet. When I rotate and balance, the death wobble goes away, then it comes back right around rotation time.

I run 65 psi in the front and 50 in the rear unless I load it, then I run 70 in the rear.

Don't know which tires I'll get next, I'm looking really hard at a set of 19.5 rims and 265/70/R19.5 with a G rating.... They would be about 35 inches tall and not too wide. And they have a lot better capacity than LT tires. I've heard they'll last 100,000 miles and they can be recapped.

As for mileage, I run a Smarty jr and a Donaldson straight-through 4" and have to stop every couple hundred miles and siphon the extra fuel off so the tank doesn't overflow....

I took a 600mi trip last week in my stock 03 and hand calculated was 24.45 mpg at 55mph the entire way, shifting at 1500 rpm on the entire tank.

Quote from orig. poster..."Most of my driving is to and from work. 1 mile (25mph) to freeway with 3 stops to get to the freeway. Up to 65mph on freeway for 17 miles. 4 miles, 7 more stops (35mph). 22 miles one way to work."

...you`re comparing apples to oranges

I`m surprised it took this long for someone who is getting 24+ MPG to post

Yes, I understand this. The idea behind my post was that he could at least create a baseline on a highway run and then work from that number. It's nearly impossible for anyone else to recreate his exact trip. A highway run is much easier to compare to. On a side note, I drive 25 miles to work one way with 5 miles of city driving and get over 20 with 35's. His lift and tires are not helping for sure.

My 04 QC 4x4 would see 18.5 combined city/hwy driving here in the DFW area and 19-22 on the highway depending on how fast I was going. Hand figured every tank for 55k miles. That was with a Quadzilla Xzillirator set on it's highest level. Lowering it one setting would drop the mpg a bit all the way down to 15mpg stock. Had a replacement AirRaid filter in it as well.

Fast forward a few years. Traded the 04 and bought an 06 MC 4x4. Installed the same filter, took the the computer over to Quadzilla (they are here in town) and had the reflash to work on the 06 as there were some minor differences.

Had some crazy drivability issues...fly by wire throttle take offs, surging, dying...but very sporadic. Got them to exchange me for a new box...worked fine after that. Regardless I could only get about 14.5 at best...no matter how I drove it. Stock was around 13.

Pulled the Quadzilla and installed an Edge/Juice combo... same mileage no change.

Installed a very nice Silverline exhaust, pulled the catalytic converter and put it in the garage just in case I needed it later. No change.

So basically I've spent almost 2000.00 and have made zero changes in MPG, increase in power yes but it makes plenty stock, even with 8000lbs behind it.

I have run the same tires on both, 33x12.5x17 all terrains.

When I took in to the dealer at 5k for something I got it back with an ECM update performed (I hadn't installed the Quadzilla back on yet) and to this day I wonder if that is what is causing the problem but I can't get anyone at Dodge to tell me and yet they can't find anything wrong.

I just find it very strange to run basically the same mods on both trucks, lose 4mpg and can NOT, no matter what mods I perform, make ANY real difference in mileage on my 06.

I'm wondering about a Smarty to possibly overwrite the stock programming.

Thoughts?

My 07 mega has 5" lift with 35's and i hand calculated to 15.3 mpg and its stock with just a CAI, MAnifold and Exhaust. One thing many havent mentioned is that the mileage on the vehicle matters on MPG mine has 434XX miles and my brothers 07 has 68,000 and hes getting 19-21 mpg newer trucks suffer on mpg and trucks that are more broken in get much better fuel mileage.
