Red face 07 transmission front pump...at 6k miles....

Ok, so I stepped up and got my new leftover 07 2500 5.9 48re 4x4. I love the truck, but am amazed that it is going to need a transmission front pump at only 6k miles. Has anyone else had to have theirs replaced also? Should mention, my problem is that it doesn't want to move if left parked for 2 days, takes about 10 seconds for it to lurk foward......if I put it into nuetral for 5-10 seconds, all is well and no problem. They claim that it is the converter bleeding down, which I can agree with, but on a 6k truck, doesn't sound right to me. Should I be watching out for something else with the transmission.....clutch packs, etc?????

Some do, some don't. Back in the dark ages of torqueflight technology it was accepted as "normal" for this to occur. It mentioned in the service manual, as well as the owners manual that if the car/truck were to sit for an extended period you were to simply start the engine, and place the trans in neutral as this would "charge" the system. Around the early 90's they started putting a "check valve" in the cooler line to help alleviate this issue. It works great, but also becomes a "trap" for any particles and they have been known to plug causing trans failure. Most likely in your case the pump to converter bushing clearance is on the high side. The delayed engagement doesn't hurt anything, but it is a nuisance.

There should be a one way check valve in cooler lines that may be the cause of bleed down. The pump bushing may be a shot at resolving. Doubt a converter replace will help. The valve body is another possibility due to air leakage past regulator valve. It is sort of the water fountain effect. As converter cools and atf in converter shrinks it pulls oil out of pan. If it gets air from some other source, the issue surfaces.

@ 6k mine would take 45 to 50 sec to pressure up to make the truck move after start up. First the cooler check valve was replaced. Then the next week came the converter, pump, and valve body. Its been ok since.

My leftover '07 5.9 did the same thing. I didn't bother with it, as I had another truck with a 47RE that was out of the truck multiple times to repair. It was never fixed. I ended up as a habit starting the truck and throwing it in neutral.

At 15k miles, instead of just servicing the trans, I had a Goerend converter, valve body, input shaft, BD billet flex plate and Mag-Hytek double deep pan installed

Now my truck moves as soon as I drop it in gear. A good tranny shop will know what to modify in your valvebody to allow the fluid to circulate in park. It is not the front pump that is bad...

I knew about the check valve inline, had a new ramcharger back in 93 that had to have it one installed. Yeah, it is a nusance to have a 40k truck do it so soon, I have plenty of 727's in gas rigs, some do the same thing, and others are much much better..... after it is out of warranty I plan on doing some upgrades to the trans anyhow, but want to make sure until then that it is going to hold up.....thanks for the input...
