'07 Engines & Auto. Transmission Questions
'07 Engines & Auto. Transmission Questions
In '07, the 2500 & 3500 pick-ups are supposed to have the 5.9 with the new DC 6-sp. auto (68RE, I believe). The Chassis/Cab is supposed to have the new 6.7 with the new Aisin 6-sp. auto.
A Duramax buddy asked why they didn't just use the new Aisin in both the pick-ups & chassis/cabs. Why go to the extra effort of having 2, 6-sp. auto's?
Since the new 6.7 will have less power than the 5.9, will the 68-RE be heavier-duty than the Aisin? Probably not.
Has anyone heard if DC is going to uprate the power on the '07, 5.9 to keep up with the Duramax & if so, what the HP level will be? Probably too early to tell.
Will the 5.9 have all the emmissions stuff, (Cat., EGR, Particulate Trap), like the 6.7?
I'd rather have good, solid information, than just opinions, please.
Thank You.

The Pre-Jan production '07 model year will have the same 5.9L and 48re tranny as the '06 model year. 2007 calendar year produced trucks will have the 6.7L and presumably 68re transmission. The Aisin will only be available in the chassis cab model.
I think I might buy an Aisin 6 spd when they come out and attempt to mate it to my 04.5 Cummins, thereby avoiding all the emissions junk that will come with those new engines. I am sure it will take gobs of electronic work to make it happen but it may be worth it.
