07 5.9 can run low sulfur w/o additives for lubrication?
Dave Smith Motors says the 5.9 in the 07 trucks has a "completely revamped" fuel system allowing it to burn the new low-sulfur fuel w/o needing to add additives for lubrication. They're saying the 06 and older will need additives to run the low-sulfer fuel, which we already know is true.
Anyone else heard this about the 07 5.9 motors?
BTW, they gave me a price of $34,070 for an 07 2500 Quad 4x4 SLT Big Horn Auto LWB

There is nothing anywhere at fuel stops that say USE ADDITIVES if low sulfer fuel. The feed store/fuel store near me is Low Sulfer and cattleman/farmers don't keep up with such as I'm sure most folks don't that aren't reading forums. They pump fuel in/pay for it and drive off.All manor and years of on road and off road diesels. So far no comments on any issues of any sort. The only Dodge thats differant is the NEW 6.7.All previous years(3rd generation) are basicly same fuel system.

Any 5.9 can run LSD or ULSD, and you can add additives or not as dictated by personal choice. The 6.7 is a whole different animal with emissions systems.
Jeez, these guys need to quit reading comic books all the time.

fuel and oil requirements
I can not believe how dealers can continue to tell people this. There is no change in the 5.9 fuel system to run on ULSD. The only problem will be for people with 1996 or earlier diesel engine due to some o-rings that are made with material that will dry up without lubrication. From what is being put out by the oil companies, the ULSD has to pass strict levels of additives to address the lubrication since sulfur is lowered in ppm. They are saying there is more additives in ULSD than in ULD. The only difference is ULSD is 15ppm and the LSD is 500 ppm. Adding additives to fuel is strictly personal choice and is not necessary. The 6.7 requires it and is necessary to run ULSD and also requires the new low ash oil which Shell Rotella supplies. Both of these are mandatory for 6.7 and other low emmission equiped '07 trucks. Be sure to read about the new oil specs also as all the auto parts stores personell I have dealt with don't know about it either. Any questions pm me and I will send you links about it. I run an 06 TDI and 06 3500 w/ ULSD and no additives and no problems from day one. ULSD has been the only fuel that has ever been in them.

Fuel madness.
My '07 manual recommends ULSD with no need for additives, but I use 'em anyway. It also states that it will run fine on LSD. We've been running on lowered sulfer fuel for years here in Ca. Buy the truck,DSM is a great place to buy from. They also have a very professional aftersale install dept. Installed all my add-ons correctly as well as my Kona buddy. DSM is the biggest dealer in the Islands. I receive no monetary reimbursement. Wish they'd open a store here in S.D.
