06 in the shop for the tick, hard start/missing

Hey guys:

Took the 06 in for the tick in the motor/missing/etc. The truck has had an audible tick since right after I bought it new. It now has 13000 on the clock.
One dealer told me the tick was ok but he was just eager to get my money for the exhaust brake install. Then the truck became hard to start and had a very noticeable miss in it during cold engine starts. Also put out alot of blue smoke at idle. also the truck was shaking. like a gas motor with the plug wire off.

So now, this dealer called and said they reflashed the computer and the cured the miss/hard start. will have to see it to believe it. anyhow, I got stuck talking to the female service rep at the desk. she said the mechanic thought the tick was from my vacuum pump on the jake. I called bs and told her the tick was in the motor not the jake. They have agreed to run the valves next. My firend has an 06 without the tick so I am not taking this laying down. I will consult an atty if they continue to give me the run around. I know this motor is not right. Any advice?

Thanks

My advice would be test what they did before you rant any more. It's possible the flash may have cured it and the Jake is ticking from a small leak. Give it a shot. Sounds like the place is trying to work with you. Give them a chance to properly trouble shoot what's happening.

Good Luck, I've had some issues with my 06. Currently in shop again for Check engine light, back window getting replaced leaks water, and the motor on the air when turned on high vibrates the whole truck. 40k dollar thrown down the drain. I only got 15000 miles on mine. My problems started at 3000, from tranny rebuilt, the transfer case, gear shift lever hung in reverse and DC or an attorney won't do anything about it cause it has to be 3 of the same problem. I can guarantee my truck will be in the shop next month, it's something every month with that dern thing. About the only good thing on that truck is the cummins. DC has a big issue with quality customer service, far as I'm concerned they lost me as a customer. Before my warranty runs out I will not own the current vehicle I have in signature. I'll take that cummins and put it in another body style truck.

Allllrighty then!

I fail to see how it is "down the drain"? You don't plan on re-couping any of the original sales price?

Nitro thanks. But it is not the Jake. The pecking noise was there before the Jake went on. It sounds like a lifter pecking in a gas motor. Everyone that rides with me can hear it, so I know it is not me! I agree this place is trying to do more that the last dealer, but they are wanting to pass the buck. Then what do I do?

Should have kept my 97 ram

And there is a problem with my truck and DC won't stand up to the problem and give me a little courtesy and say "This guy got one of the x/400,000 made that needs to be replaced he keeps having to take it back to the shop." Hey how about doing something about it instead of, oh well we got his money, he has to deal with it! That gentlman is not Customer service. I'm military, I travel alot and the people I work with have personally told me, the problems I've seen you have with your truck, I won't buy a DC product. My last command wrote this on my plaque: Sgt John "Cowboy Up" Carpenter, Your Redneck mannerism and phrases will be sorely missed. All of us "City Slickers" appreciate the salemanship you provided to us on Daimler-Chrysler's behalf. At the bottom they put a ford and chevy symbol and on the back they put the ram on there that describes the uterus. So, now at my new duty station, my new Marines are asking what does all this mean on your plaque. Well, during chow you know when I tell you I've got a few things to take care of. What Vehicle do I always come back in Devil Dog? That's right had to drop the dodge off at the dealer that's why I'm driving the wifes Chevy, again. That's spreading the news, gents! West Coast to the East Coast.

I purchase a new diesel of some sort every year. If I had the problems some people have had. You can bet there is an easy solution. GO TRADE THE TRUCK OFF. Sometimes it easier to have to pay out some extra money than worry yourself sick over your Friday built truck. It seems that when we get the feeling that our trucks are junk. We start to look for every little problem they have instead of the problems coming to you. I know it can be frustrating. But sometimes the truck across the streat isn't any better.

Has anyone had a definitive fix for the "tick"? I thought I read someone on here that had the timing gears and fuel pump replaced and that cured it. My dealer still dont even want to run the **** valves! They told me on the phone that 3 of them listened to my truck and cant hear anything abnormal! They did do a flash on the computer and said that timing adjustments were made! I have my doubts and expect to hear the tick tomorrow.

thanks

Just run it if it blows then it's under warranty.
document it so they know it was a problem before the warranty expires.

you can go crazy if you listen to close to these trucks

I hear all types of sounds on my 06 that my 01 never had.(or I could not hear) What I really think is happening is the new ones are SOOOOO quiet that I hear stuff that was masked by my loud 01 but probably there from day one.

I agree!! My 2000 was noisey so the sounds were probably there, just couldn't hear 'em. My new 06 is so quiet that you hear all kinds of things clicking & ticking
