And yes this even happens with it in the off position in case some of you are thinking the key was left on. Anyhow the alternator has some kind of protection on it which stops charging if the battery gets to low. Doesn't make much sence to me but the guy said make sure the key is out. I have never had this problem with my 04 and I leave the key in it a weeks at a time. Also the tech said that when the key is in that the satillite radio is connected even in the off position. I personally think that the engineer that came up with this setup needs fired if this is truelly the case.
this was after 2 days and yes keys in the ignition (If I take them out they will be lost for sure) I have a appointment for my truck in the morning I will bring this up for another opinion
Well I hope this is all that is wrong with the truck. Service has not called us back. They were going to go through everything just to make sure that the key was the culprit, but they were almost 99% sure it is. I hope it's the cause of all of this. I was the one who talked him into going with that Cummins Power. My 04 dually has been flawless other than ball joints and u-joints. Power wise it's a beast and it's bone stock.
BTW: One of the good things about living in Montana is that you can leave everything unlocked and the keys in it. It also doesn't hurt that your closest neighbor is 10 miles away. The way I see it if it's locked it's only keeping my friends out!

Sort of had the same thing happen to me. Went to start after it had been sitting for around a week in the garage and the batteries were dead. Took a long charge to bring them back. Assumed I left the key on, maybe I didnt!!!!! Seem like a weird thing, wonder why they would want this???
Matter of fact going to pull my keys right now, just in case.
Dont think the radio/sirus remains on, at least on mine.

I have a buddy with an identical truck like mine: 2006 6spd Lone Star Edition (only longbed), and he has had alternator trouble that left him on the side of the road TWICE! With less than 10K miles! I'm not sure of the details, but they were similar to what was said about guages and lights. I'll see if I can find out more from him
Sorry I have not gotten back to you guys on verdict on this. Been busy.
It was the key issue. The tech could not find anything other than this
(leaving the key in the ignition). I'm sure that for many of you this will never be an issue, but for the few of us that do leave our keys in our truck this is a good thing to know, or if you run into someone with a simular problem maybe you can give them the heads-up.
My dad felt like an idiot over the whole situation until I dropped him off at the dealership and they were pulling in a black megacab which they (the techs) were sure had the same problem with the key left in.

On my 04.5 I leave it sit days at a time with keys in ignition and have never had a problem.. This must be something new.
I live less than an hour from dowtown Chicago and our house in always unlocked, all keys in cars, in ignition, unlocked, etc. My sheds, shop, garage, barns, etc. are also unlocked, oftentimes with doors open. Knock on wood, never had any problems. I can't imagine living somewhere that required constant vigilance over everything I own!

DOA this morning
I have an '06 QC 4x4 CTD also. Sat this weekend all alone, no keys even near it and this morning it was DOA. Took 45 minutes on the charger just to fire up, then check engine light.
@ dealer now, they said the underhood fuse block is bad. 5 days for parts
. with no fuses in it, the block is somehow drawing 170mA. Hope this can help other guys...

My truck went dead pulling out of camp ground would not start got check gauge lite . I tried turning off the key three times no go i then disconnected both batteries still would not crank not geting any fuel . Called dearler they picked up the truck.
The problem was i had hooked the air compressor Ffor my air horns to the power point circut in the fuse panel under the hood the compressor had locked up and was causing a voltage spike which in turn caused the computer to close the fuel valve . Once we took the copressor wire loose form fuse panel the truck started and ran fine. The mechanic recomended that any power be taken from dierect from battery and not to run anything through te fuse panel.Hope this helps someone out great dealer covered this under warrenty.
