im looking at an 06 mega cab. how do you tell by the vin if its a 06 or 06.5

 

Not sure about VIN's but there is no 6.5 model. It's either an 06 or an 07. The 07 has 5.9L. The 7.5 has the 6.7L. The headlights are really the only difference between 06 and 07. 06's have that funny lookin reflective strip at the bottom. 07's have the same headlights as 7.5, 08...

edge has a different chip for 04.5-05, 06 and 06.5-07

 

There are some ECM differences from 06 to 07 and earlier years. Late build 07's in particular can't run TST because of it. Early ones can as well as the 06 models. Guess that's what edge mean's by 6.5 There really is no such thing by definition though. You definitely need to find out more from the VIN about the engine build date to know what works and what won't. No help there sorry..

 

they say trucks built after july 06 are 06.5, and on another thread it was said that the 06.5 and 07 ecm can trace performance chips and are harder to modify.
