04 engine build details
So i bought an 04 3500 with a 6 speed and the motor was hurt in it . I have roughly 2700 in the truck . I decided to rebuild the engine my self pulling the thing out of the truck is a different story that is a pain in the a$$, im writing this to basicly let other people know what to expect when tackling this project . First off on pulling it out, remove the valvecover, injector electronics, pushrods ( 2 plugs in the fire wall that have to be removed to pull the rear pushrods), rocker arm assemblies, and injectors, then unbolt the motor mounts from the block and the frame and lift up the engine until u can pull the mounts out. lift the engine as high as u can without breaking anything and unbolt the oil pan and it will drop down plenty enough to unbolt the pickup tube, once that is done let the pan and the pickup just lay in the truck and lower the motor and unbolt the transmission then once all the wiring and accessories are unhooked the motor will come right out . its a pain but its easier to do it that was and bolting the pan on in the trck is way easier then you would think. the entire engine build cost me $1950 that included sleeving number 6 hole, boring all 6 .020 over and resizing the rods, turning the rod journals .030 and the the mains .010 and straightening the crank , surfacing the block and head and rebuilding the head, all new pistons, rings, bearings and gaskets. there mahle piston and rings and clevite bearings and felpro gaskets.
