Is there any way to tell if a truck is a 04 or 04.5 by the vin #?

I'm not sure of the VIN code, but the engine data tag on the valve cover will list the horsepower

take it to the dodge dealership and have them run it. it'll show you the option list, and should tell the horsepower

easiest way is going to be to ask the seller to read you the HP off the engine tag

FWIW, you can go here and request a build sheet, but I can't guarantee if it will say what the HP is...
