04 or 04.5

OK, maybe it's just me, but it seems that most of the posts I have read concerning which truck to buy usually give the edge to an 03 HO or 04 over an 04.5 or 05. Like I said, maybe that is just the impression I'm getting and I know that a lot of it will come down to personal preference. Anyways, I'm plan on purchasing soon and I would just like some input. I'm trying to get a better handle on the differences between the 03 trucks up through the 05s. (and I plan on getting a manual transmission)

1) How many of you folks would prefer an 04.5 or an 04 or 03 HO? And why?

2) Is there really much of a difference in fuel mileage between the different years?

3) Can anyone tell me if any one year had more problems or issues than another year.

Any input you have will be appreciated. Thanks

04.5 because programming upgrades are better.
fuel mileage no real change
no problems
if your gonna add POWER then go 04.5, but for a daily driver it doesnt matter

It seems like the owners of most Cummins 600's and newer are claiming worse fuel mileage. I get great mileage on my 2003, and I have 4.10's. Who knows. I have never owned a Cummins 600. But if you get a 600, you have a true 4'' exhaust system. That will save you some money. I hope this info helps some. Good luck.

I've had a 2003HO and now have a 2004.5. The power difference is not noticeable and the 03' got 2-4mpg better fuel economy.

I've always felt the early '04 trucks are the best of breed. No emissions junk, great fuel mileage, 305HP/555TQ, metal intercooler ends, 48re/nv5600 trannys, and rear seat headrests. The only downside is the crappy stock lift pump, but Glacier Diesel Power can cure that nicely with their Walbro kit.
