Sierra Phil,

Yes those are actual manual calculations I do regularly. The computer was way off but has now come within .2 or .3 of the actual MPG figures. Mine is the automatic 47RE which may be part of the difference but your MPG is really good for the 4:10 on the highway.

I wonder how mine compares to some other SOs with the automatic? I think there are some threads out there I'll go check.

Later,

It appears that mileage veries alot. I get about 17 - 23 depending on how much I mash the pedal. If I keep it below 65 I usally average 20 - 23. If I push it, over 2krpms I get about about 17 - 19 mpg. In town if I stay out of it and don't embarass those POS LOUD supertuner cars I average 12 -14, but when I play around I get about 10 - 13.
I have the CA 235 w/47re auto tranny. Only mods are an AFE air filter and AMSOIL throughout.

I've had the typical corrections done to my truck, low diff. fluid, clutch chatter in neutral, check engine light occasionally flashes on then goes right back off, and the alt. bracket has been replaced. All I can say is "what a truck!" its awesome, and I dont regret it at all. I have 13K on mine now, and looking forward to many more. By the way, I have the 6 shooter, and 4:10's and I average 16.5 mpg. I know some are getting better than that, but a heavy right foot is the culprit. Stay under 2000 rpm's, and it gets close to 20 mpg. CC.

Ram Man and Sierra Phil, the disparity between your mileages may also be due to the fact that one of you is 4wd and one isn't. I'm not so sure with the cummins, but on previous 4x4 suv's I've owned, the 4x2 counterparts always got better fuel economy. Either way, the cummins' economy is certainly good for a big truck, but pretty horrible regardless for a daily driver unless you are needing to tow...

Only two issues so far with my truck. The rear axle was about one quart low and a small fuel leak at the lift pump. The lift pump bolts holding the lift pump to the fuel filter housing wasn't torqued to spec. Other than that I love this truck!

MikeyB

15,000 miles, cracked alternator bracket, both diff's, trans and transfer case low on fluid from factory. Otherwise no problems. 15-18 m.p.g. varies by load and driving style. ;D

HO, 6sp. NEarly 10,000 miles. Drive train had some noise in neutral for the first 4000miles. That is gone and I have zero complaint. These trucks do seem to get noticably better with time.

Re:'03 CTD drivetrain reports... How many miles? Any problems?

Delivered June 2nd. Now has 5320 miles on her :-* Both diffs & tranny case low on fluid when delivered, drove it 3 miles to my shop & topped off the fluids. R/front door speaker is defective & body plugs were missing. Slight resonance/vibration at 2000 RPM (tolerable, after all, its a diesel ) No mechanical issues at all. Build quality MUCH better than my US built 2002 1500. (Mexican built truck)

12,000 and had the overhead give the "-----" one time. since 10,000, I have had a ??? rpm (very slight) rev cycle when the truck is cold at idle. when warm, revs are solid as a rock....UH OH, that was a chubby ad statement. My mistake.

Other than this, I love this truck ;D

HO, 6, 4X4, SLT (manual xcase shifter), 373,

If I buy Texaco diesel, I get 1 mpg better than BP diesel. Just something I have noticed. I buy which ever is least $$ at the time.

Re:'03 CTD drivetrain reports... How many miles? Any problems?

just a reminder that the low fluid levels reported are likely a red herring. the fill hole is not the correct indicator of proper fluid level, according to AA, and the reports of low level are false. The problem was insufficient education at DC dealers who (understandaby so) diagnosed low fluid level because of the fill hole position. AA manufactures several axles with the same casing, all with the same fill hole position.

There were some early quality problems with the AA axles, relating to gear setup and such, all of which (according to AA) were unrelated to the fill level. of course, the DC techs had a tendancy to put the wrong fluid in there as well, including adding the friction modifier. yikes!

Re:'03 CTD drivetrain reports... How many miles? Any problems?

??????? the fill hole is the only reference for checking fluid level. it also clearly states in the owners manual to check fluid level from file hole. i can't believe there are set-up issues, AA has manufactered axles for years. and for alot of different manufactures. although anything put together with hands is subject to a problem every now and then!
