Cool cracked transmission retainer 2003 hemi 2500 5 spd nv4500 4x4 slt standard cab

recently purchased an 03 2500 ram 4x4 5 spd
after a little dance with the death wobble (fixed it for 70 bux delivered.)we were shaking out the truck to see if it is ready for long hauls.
got 3 miles and the transmission retainer broke in half and spit the drive shaft out on the ground.
the aluminum retainer is destroyed but the transfer case seems fine. we actually drove back home with the front drive shaft and it drove really nice considering the oil slicks and carnage we left behind us.
my big question is I found a cast iron after market part replacement for this. everything I have read makes me think the diesel and gas version of this part are identical.
does anyone have hands on experience with this issue? will a "diesel" part fit a gas application ?
thanx in advance.
also looking for a new sliding yoke for the drive shaft if you have one laying around. ours is on the i40 somewhere.
