Sounds like the motor or motor control (if there is such a thing) is going out.

Most likely your intermitant wiper module is shot, about $90, or if you're lucky maybe just a loose connection to it, the switch or motor.

I don't want to hijack this thread. But I am having a problem with my wipers as well. I posted a week ago about them. But I think this is what is causing the problem. Is this unit you speak of do this? Is this the unit that clicks with the int. wipers are used? If so That is my problem. The unit that has the click to it. It sounds like it is in the dash. But where? I will check all connections.

Thanks,
Jay

You have to remove the knee blocker to see the module, it's connected to metal lower dash support, right side of steering column. It says right on the side "intermitant wiper controller".
Make sure you have good grounds, connections to the module, the switch and motor before replacing.

Haven't had to work on too many wiper probs out in the desert but isn't the park switch for the wipers still in the wiper motor itself?

Check the wiring connection at the switch. Mine did this this weekend which I have a loose/funky connection there on the column which causes other problems (lights) and I flipped on the wipers and they did excatly what you describe so I slide my finger in between the plastic pieces and pushed against the connection BINGO! they work like brand new. I have not popped the plastic loose on the column yet to see what the problem is but I suspect the wiring connections have wiggled loose over time and are starting to pull out from the plastic connector. Try pushing on the connection before replacing parts - I only mention it because I have seen this problem on mine.

on edit:

The connection is right down from the switch stalk on the drivers side of the column. It's pretty good sized so you can feel it in the dark even.
