What's happening to my fuel mileage!

I'm getting a hand calculated, consistent 21 mpg up in the hills of Taxachusetts, and 23 mpg on the flats of the NJ Turnpike. This is up nearly 2 mpg. After 75,000 miles, is the engine finally getting broken in? 23 mpg with a 3 ton "brick"! Geez, I love my '02....

You sound like your doing better than me.

For average on 45,000+ miles I've gotten approx 20.4 MPG as of 10/11/04

Mostly highway miles and with a heavy foot. So if your getting 21 - 23 MPG your doing good!

My "break in " increase occured around 40,000 miles and got me up to 18.5 mpg (by hand). Maybe there is more to look forward to? Over 20 mpg on a 4x4 auto is almost unheard of.
Excellent!

I'd love some of that.

Mine is gradually creeping up.

14.9 hand calculated with my last fillup

Was a consistent 13.5 a couple months ago.
(forgot to calculate for about 4 fillups)

Only 37,500 miles though.

That loooong commute of yours has to be helping some.

I know if I keep it around 65 I can massage the overhead to read 20mpg,
most of the time I'm running 70-72 with the overhead reading 12-14 though.

After taking a road trip with the comp installed this weekend, my milage went from 13 to 15.75!! At $2.08/gal, that makes me want to take more road trips instead of flooring it around town.
