Probably right, but if one dosen't know that going in, and 6-months after buying it has to replace thier shelled tranmission (and it was just over $4000, complete) it tends to affect thier view of the truck. A couple I went to grad school with, and reccommended this truck to, had the misfortune of having to deal with this truck.

I just had to renew my plates and the tax assessed value from the state was just under 13,000. No way I would sell it for that though!
7500 seems like a pretty good price to me.

Just bought mine last month and the loan value was 13,885. Paid 4500. with a bad trans. and put 3300. in the trans. Now its one awsome truck.

Loan value is useful also since banks don't take risks (unless it's because they make a mistake while blinded by greed).

When I first got my 2 wheel drive it had Michelin street tread tires on it and I got stuck just looking at wet grass, most sorry truck I ever drove.
Went to Cooper AT's and everything changed and now that I have Silent Armors on her I am very pleased.

Good Buy. Get it checked by a dealer. Add an FP gauge & carry a spare LP and learn how to put it on, if the LP goes dead. The VP44 can last a very long time if it maitains pressure from the lift pump. A Vulcan Big line kit is a good mod, moves the LP down by the tank. You can also get Airtex replacement pumps, suppose to be better than the stock Carters.
Let me know how it goes.
How heavy is the horse trailer?
Does the truck have a factory tow package, class 4 hitch?
I also like the Goodyear Silent armour for any off road with 2 WD.
Get some Bilstein shocks too, they are the best, huge improvement in ride.
This truck will make the 150 seem like a toy, at least for hauling heavy loads.
The torque will amaze you.
You will love this Cummins.

I love those last year 2nd gens. She only pulls around 6000 lbs, but it is always nice to have more truck than you need. That is why I have the 07, I rarely pull over 8000 lbs and my truck is never ever manhandled by the trailer. Shoot, I actually out accelerated a new Chevy Avalanche uphill while pulling the horse trailer. I just walked on him!
