Very odd A/C problem

Okay so my trucks a/c system has been working very well all summer last week or so i noticed it wasn't working. After driveing around a bit i noticed that the A/C works good, down to 40 F duct them when i drive around town, back up to 60 or higher when i'm on the highway. I've never seen this issuse before and the shop i work at doesn't have guages, we just fill with redtek cans so i'm wondering if anyone else has had this issuse and can let me know what i mostlikly need to fix. Or maybe i'll end up buying some guages but i'd rather not have to right now.

Sounds like it might be a bit low on freon. Shoot it with a can and see what happens.

yea i tryed that made it cool to 35f. On the way home from work today a/c was blowin like 80f so i pulled over, noticed that the a/c clutch was engauged but barly moveing, so i'll have to check for full voltage to the clutch, but i think the clutch is just bad. hopefully over filling it didn't cuase the clutch to slip. i think when i do the clutch i'll empty the system and refill it to proper spec as i don't have guages to just let some out.

Yep, restriction somewhere, at least you eliminate the line as a probelm when you replace the orifice.

Other possibility could be the condenser, but I highly doubt that.

You did not mean to say the vents were running at 45C, did you?
