I always check the oil before a long trip, top off the water meth and look at my suck *** tires. I ve lost 4 of the 6 mostly due to over heating, you wouldnt think a couple hours at 85-95 mph wouldn't kill a tire, but these things are like slicks after a burnout if i go 90, but hey 3.54's and 6 speed.

I bought cheap tires, live and learn.

I have recently done it twice, although it was 3,400 mile roundtrips and the truck had 199,000 on it when I started.

At first I thought you said 1,175,000 miles. That might give me some food for thought, but at 175,000 shes a spring chicken!

Lots of road to pass before you worry.

I went on several 500 mile trips with my 1.2 million mile 91' without any problems.

My 01' has 211,000 and I took a 500 mile trip this weekend no problems. Echoing what has already been said, only you know your truck and anything can happen.

About to take off on a 3000 mile journey with a 8K trailer and still have to load two Quads on the deck. Changed out all the things I could , hoses belt ,all fluids , stat and a new alternator in the back just incase and a good set of tools . Thats about all ya can do , I worry alot too , but like what was said ya just gotta go and enjoy the trip.

I did a 7k km trip when I had about 290k km on it.

If you maintain it well, it will be as fine as any other vehicle. Things can always happen with any vehicle.

I have no hesitation of taking mine anywhere, any time. Of course, if I'll (significantly) overrun the miantenance intervals during the trip, I'll do the necessary maintenace before. If I'll blow a couple hunderd km past the oil change interval, I'll just do it.

I bought my '97 in Spokane in 07/04 and drove it 1400 miles to get home. I did stop half way at my parent's to change the engine oil & filter, tranny oil & filter, and t-case oil.

I now have 175,000 miles on it. In June of this year, I drove to Yreka, CA and back (1400+ miles). I did bring tools, a spare wiring harness (I've had this since tracking down a bad electrical problem a couple years back), fluids, etc. In Aug of this year, I drove to Casper, WY and back (2000+ miles). I didn't even bring a toolbox. Last week I drove to to Logan, UT and back (1500+ miles). I think my truck is finally happy with me since I was able to get it out of the Southern California traffic and on to the open road.

Would you do it, without hesitation?

Anything I should do except changing the fluids?

I havent had the truck that long.... maybe six months but during the time I have had it I have replaced....

brake pads - front and rear
front rotors - they were cracked
upper and lower radiator hoses
flushed the coolant
changed the thermo (cause I ruined the seal)
dealer said he had the trans rebuilt it does have new fluid
replaced the serpentine belt
replaced the water pump
replaced the shocks
installed +2" springs
4 new tires
changed the oil and filter
installed a bhaf and heat sheild

the lp reads 15psi
and the vp44 appears to be new
I have 277,000 miles, I was going to do a 4000 miles trip hauling another 2500 through the Rockies and I wouldn't worry about it at all. Oil was new 2000 miles ago, get on it and drive.
If the truck feels solid, with no loose suspension component, I would just get on it and drive. Set cruise at 70mph and enjoy 19mpg driving

Depending on the speed limit, I set mine between 75 & 79. I only get 15MPG. I wish I could get more, without having to go slower.

I'd either drive it or sell it if I was afraid to take any trip at all no matter how long or short. It's a diesel man......175K isn't squat on it. As long as she's maintained she should run ten times that many miles.

As long as you kept up on your truck you should have no problem , I just did 2000 miles in a weekend from Pa to Georgia and back ...when I was on my way back heading thur Georgia I remember thinking this is suck a great truck and never thought twice about the 170k that was on the truck .
