well it ended up getting down to -19 out here in the country here lastnight.. Had the Cummins plugged it, however when i went to leleave the batteries didnt have enough to turn her over fast enough. So now im getting a jump from one of them blue oval products ..... Anyways i was just wondering what kind of batteries you might reccomend, id like to get new ones now, as far as i can tell these are still the originals. so whatcha all reccomend for batts.???????

 

I have in mine the Optima Red Top and I believe the group of the battery is #27
I would park my truck for 4 days and then when I go to start it she fires right up. The only time it would not is if the voltage has not stablized when first starting and its shut done before its at full charge and the battery guage is at a constant 14 volts.

 

Happened the first winter I had the truck when I brought it up here from Arkansas. I replced them with the biggest batteries from my local Wal-Mart. Three years plus, sits outside and runs everyday.

 

Get the same CCA as you have.

 

I replaced mine with Interstate batteries, they seem to be holding up well.

 

hey man you need some thing dependable go with a set of oddesey. there pricy but you get what you pay for. over 4000 CCA , send me a pm if you want the link to them they will run ya about $560 for a set of 2 . well worth it with a 11-12 year life. you have seen/heard my ruck start with them.

 

I got mine at AZ for about 175 for the 2 . Not as good as Fox man but they do the job. Started me at -15 no plug in. And you ought to hear mine run at -15 haha.


I got the generator now. Also have another problem ...how to get the generator started at -15. Need some kind of pre-heater for it.

I also have a 2001 and the original batteries. Is starting a little slow in the mornings now, I think I will replace them with Interstate.

 

I had the OEM batteries in my truck until a year ago, when I replaced them with the silver series from advance auto parts, 750cca. A few weeks ago just as a little test I first jump started a jetta TDI (-3F), cycled the heaters 3 times with no plug heater, and it fired up. A little slow turning everything over, but it did start withing the first couple of turns.

 

If you're planning to replace with group 27 (OEM size) I'll say Interstate or Mopar.

In these cold snaps, if the truck hasn't run for a solid hour after starting, I use a charger to make sure the batteries are completly topped off. I also use the block heater for as long as possible.

 

I upgraded mine to GRP 31s, just had to trim one edge of the tray off.

 

not worth the aggrivation but you would be supprised how much just "warming the batteries up" with a charger on the cold mornings will make.

 

I Just replaced mine with two 85 Month Interstate MTD 24 Batteries.

I have the originals in my 01 with 105k+ miles. I priced a set yesterday at the dealer. $180 out the door for the pair. I figured if the originals have lasted this long, I will stick to OEM. Just my .02
