tailgate security?

This female part on one side is partially open so you can lower the tailgate partway down, pull it towards the rear of the truck to slide it off the peg on that side, and then pull it inwards off the peg on the other side. Hard to describe, easy to see once you look at it.
Anyway, the hose clamp goes around the female part on the tailgate that's partially open, the one that slides off first, so that you'd need a screwdriver to take it off.

I like the idea of the hose clamp just because of the cost. The pop-lock seems like a good idea too, but quite a bit more $$ than a hose clamp. I remove and replace the tailgate all the time for using the slide in camper, so something quick but secure is what I really want.
Thanks for the pop-lock link infidel !
I can't remember where I saw it but there is a company that makes one that works with your power locks...when you doors are locked it locks your tail gate too...that's a cool idea, and from what I remember it wasn't a forture....it may have been on E-bay...

I installed a system very similar to the one in JC Whitney. The one I have is made by Pop-a-lock. It is wired to the same circuit as my door locks. When I lock up the cab, the tailgate gets locked also.
Installation is kind of a pain. You need to have 3 hands the size of a 5 year old to hold everything in place to bolt it in. I managed to finish the install with my fat hands, so it can be done. Just takes beer and patience.
Fortunately my tailgate was not stolen, but I did lose a set of taillights. Woke up one morning last year to find wires hanging out the back of my truck. It was kinda funny trying to explain to the insurance company why I needed a rental.

My dad has,
Get a 1 1/4 hose clamp, get a 1/4 inch old wrench, and grind the edges off till its narrow enough to stick into the open prong of the tailgate, Wrap the hose clamp around, and tighten it with the wrench, turn it around till a difficult angle, and stick the grinded wrench into the bolt and twist away, cheap, easy, and ive done it to every tailgate ive had, never lost one... Theives barely carry tools, and i sure as heck doubt that they will carry specialized wrenches regardless of their "complexity" so to say he he he he he

fourwhls00 brings up a good point...the hose clamp will work for the tail gate, but how easy are the tail lights to steal on these things, pretty easy......so a lock that will keep the tail gate up would be better in more than one way....
I use the hose clamp with a couple of wraps of duct tape around it . Had a pop lock deal on my Dakota broke the bezel removing it to install pop lock this particular brand really didn't fit the opening that well. Thanks Steve B.
