1. How do you know if these need replacing or not?
2. Will you be able to tell a difference with new ones installed?
I remember reading on here that one person was talking about disconnecting their swaybar all together. No doubt, I do not believe this is a smart thing to do, but
3. what does the swaybar do? Does it more or less hold the axle in position under the truck but allow the axle to move around a little?

hi
your sway bar greatly reduces the body sway on curves .
if you disconnect it you will notice it the first slightly fast curve you take .
keeps truck level and flat in the curve . for much better control !
track bar holds axel position !
