Steering Woes

Having some trouble with the steering on the truck (go figure eh?). Right now, seems that the majority of the slop is coming from tie rod ends on the drag link. Need to replace all of them though (117,000mi). And am thinking about fabricating a new setup out of DOM tubing and Chevy 1 ton rod ends or Heims like the guy on the PavementSucks website. Was wondering if anyone out there has done this to a Diesel (I can't tell, but I think he did his on a 1/2ton dodge), or if there are any other ideas I might consider. I can get the factory replacements for around $300 for all of the parts, but am not really excited about that. Any ideas guys?

What year truck is yours and does it have a lift?

I just put the heavy duty factory inverted T on my truck. I got my parts from a wholesale place here in so-cal and what a difference. The last year it was available was 99.
My truck steers completly different, a little more slop ( to be remidied soon with new track bar with mounts.)

total cost about $280.00

http://bulletproofsteering.com/main.html has a setup I was considering. Looks hevery duty then the stock junk. have to take all kinds of mesurements so the guy can custom bend the tie rod. Nice if you have a mag hitec or something. Only problem is that its like 500$

Darrins steering stabilizer

Have you heard of the DSS steering stabilizer? www.solidsteel.ca
If you have lots of slop in the steering box which is common on the 4x4 models, this brace fixes that. Also suppose to work on the 2x4 trucks. I have one on order. They also have a setup to use the trac bar from an 03 truck that uses rubber bushings.

I got his steering on my Jeep rock crawler. I've never seen rod ends as tight as his. I had them on for 2 years and took them off a few weeks ago to switch out the axle and they were still tight. Def a nice set up even for the price.

Have you tried adjusting the steering box? Tighten that up first before you do anything. It will make a world of difference.

When you refer to the steering box, which adjustment exactly are you talking about? I have heard there are two of them, but not 100% on how to do either one. Will look at the link again, but let me know if you ahv a good step by step proc. for it. Thanks-
