Steering Gearbox

Wondering if anyone knows what would cause the steering box spline where it hooks into your pitman arm to shear?? Its on a 1999 Dodge 2500. The tires I know are not stock, when I bought the truck, it was lifted , and running 315/75/16s. Thought I'd take the lift off and never did, never changed the tire size either. Truck has about 110,000 miles.

The factory crossover-style steering with a heavy diesel engine and big tires can put a lot of force on the sector shaft.

This style brace kit with an extra bearing is a fairly standard upgrade for these trucks:
