Speaker sizes
Sorry if I have this in the wrong place, but I can't seem to find a better place. I have a 2000 2500 Quad Cab (I think). I have the mini/suicide rear doors. The previous owner obviously had a huge stereo system with amp/sub etc. When he removed his gear he destroyed the speakers and wiring. I sure would like to get back to having more than one little speaker. The truck has spots for 6 speakers, a tweeter in each of the front window posts and then one speaker in each of the 4 doors. My question is, does anyone know what size speaker fits in the stock holes in each of the 4 doors? Thanks for help folks.

Ok, fingers moving faster than brain!!! It is a Saturday morning. Any tricks to getting door panels off? It looks like a few Philips screws but I would rather be sure before I get back from the city. Thanks for help and fast responses. You all save me a lot of work.
Hi!
6X9 in the front and I went with a smaller 5.5" Pioneer two way set up in the rear doors. There are two pre punched holes in the rear doors for either size. I find that the small speakers in the rear work just fine. YMMV on that point - depends on your needs! I'm pretty sure that the tweets are basic 1" jobs that you might be able to pull out of a junker at the local scrap yard. Be careful peeling the door covers off - when I did mine I broke a crap load of the flimsy retainer pockets. You should probably buy a couple of pkgs of the retainer clips as well since the used ones you pull out are not going to retain the door panels very well.

The DPO did the same thing on my 97 extended cab. He left top of the line Pioneer 6x9 speakers in the front and blown 4" speakers in the rear. The sound was so tinny it used to give me a headache when I had the radio on. I think he had a bunch of amps in the back seat because there were thick power cables running back there.
I put an ad for speakers on my local Freecycle and scored a pair of top of the line Kenwood 6.5" speakers. They look like they weren't used long (the person who gave them to me said they used them 3 months and took them out before they sold the car). It was a tight fit getting them in there but I got it to work. Now I have decent sound in my truck.

Well, I am finally getting around to installing the new speakers. This has NOT been an easy job. Everything from door panel removal and re-installation to speaker wiring has been difficult and slow. After 6 hours, I finally have the wires for all 4 speakers up to the bottom of the console. I am done for the day since I was starting to get impatient and 'rammy' - as in I was ramming things. I can tell for sure the PO had some serious audio in the truck. HUGE wires everywhere and a 150watt circuit and fuse coming off the battery that was connect to a wire as big around as my baby finger that came through the carpet under the rear seat. I swear he de-installed his audio system with a saws all. It is a real mess.

4 more hours plus a trip to the city to buy a new stereo at Wal-Mart and that job is done. Who ever would have thought that putting in new speakers, wire and a stereo would be a 2 day job.
