Shocking Dodge

I'm sure it's because of my "electric" personallity, but why is it everytime I step out of my Dodge, it shocks the heck out of me? I've disciplined myself to close the door with the palm of my hand because if I use my fingers it give me one heck of a static shock.

Re:Shocking Dodge

It's the static charge built up when you slide across the seats. One way to avoid it is while you have your keys in your hand, with your finger on the metal of one of the keys, touch to door with the key. I know it sounds strange, but you won't get the shock. The static will arc from the key and you won't feel anything.

Re:Shocking Dodge

No matter how many times it happens, it still...shocks me, and I jump like a little girl everytime it happens.

Re:Shocking Dodge

I am quite often wearing polyester combat pants... I find that its just better to hold onto something metal while getting out... no more shocks if you keep yourself grounded to the car while you generate the static electricity =P

Re:Shocking Dodge

I bet a quick visit to the commercial electronics store might reveal some anti-static products (like mats) which could help end this. First time I get shocked, that's where I'll be heading.

Sean

Re:Shocking Dodge
Static electricity is created when you slide across the seat to get out. When mine was new it was a bear for creating static lectric. But it's gone for the most part now. Try to lift yourself a little before getting out, and keep your hand on the door as you exit. That way it flows to the door instead of jumping the gap between your hand and door.
