Rust prevention?

I recently aquired a 2000 2500 with the Mark III package. It consists of an interior upgrade and fiberglass fender liners and cab steps. I want to know what I can do to stop salt and moisture from wreaking havoc under the fiberglass and at the seams. Would spraying #M rust fighter or WD40 into the seams prevent rust? Any ideas what would help?

Nothign short of removing them will truly keep rust at bay. I just had the bell bottoms (or prom dress) removed from my truck, and its never looked better!

Lotta rust under there.

I'm with A. Bomb. only removing them and cleaning up what you have will stop the rust-monster. They do an exelent job of catching road salt and grime and holding it against the body. i had a conversion astro van that looks like crap now thanks to the runnig boards.

I am in the process of wire brushing rust and spraying it with rust treatment from pep boys, which works pretty well, then hitting it with a few coats of rustoleum. Might get a layer of grease once everything is said and done but I am only about 10% done as I have other projects and am buying a house.

por15 works great on rust, but you must topcoat it with some paint or undercoating
