Replacing the Cluster?

About a year ago I put the white face guage kit im my cluster, and never really liked it, I am wondering if I can just pickup a used cluster out of a cummins and install it, or does it need to be a 99? what about mileage? I dont believe the mileage is stored in the IC but havent run into to this yet, theres 1 used cluster from a cummins 99 right now on ebay only thing different is its out of a manual.

'98 and '99 were sort of weird transition years where a lot things don't swap well. I'd be careful, you might try a dealer to see if the part numbers are the same.
Odo is stored in the PCM, new cluster will read the same as the old.

The manuals don't have the trany selector window either. Its blocked off. I would imagine this would have to be retrofitted or you'll need the auto cluster. I'd try a local wrecking yard in case you have problems between years.
