replace steering wheel

I bought a leather and wood steering wheel on e-bay for my 2001, I don't have radio controls on the old wheel. Has any one done this swap? How do I remove the horn pad? Any problems with the airbag if I disconnect the battery?

Disconnect the negative cables, let the truck sit for an hour or so. The horn has two screws through the bottom of the wheel spokes. The air bag wire pulls out of the clip on the back of the air bag. USE A PULLER or you will mess up the shaft. Always mark the position of the wheel on the shaft even though many will only go on in one position.

In addition to what was said before I suggest that you wear a grounding strap while doing this work and never place your body into the direction the airbag could go off.
Also while storing an airbag equipped steering wheel the airbag must face upwards and nothing may be stored on the airbag.

Just my 2c

AlpineRAM

Re:replace steering wheel

Thanks for the info, I pulled it off today and found that the my wheel has splines for the shaft and the new one is smooth with a keyway. Mine is a 2001 and the new wheel is supposed to fit 99-02. I got it on e-bay, I hope they can exchange it because my old one is getting worn and the wood and leather sure is nice.
