Remote Start Recommends?? Please?

Need something affordable (lol) for hubby's '02 CTD 6 spd. Alarm not necessary, probably be a nice option though. Keyless entry would be nice since his truck didn't come with it.

Thanks, folks!

Find one that uses the wait to start light. They also make one that uses a timer but thats a guessing game. the one for the wait to start light is nice. when the light goes out the truck will start. Mine is a viper and was on the truck when I bought it but i have never had a problem with it.

I got mine JC whitney for around $80. Installation was a PINTA.

I havent had any issues. It has a 30sec delay on it for the wait to start. It also has 2 aux inputs for whatever you want. And of course keyless entry.

$59 remote start keyless entry from JC Whitney has been working fine for 12 years.
Took 10 hours to install though.
Don't think you'll find any remotes that just plug in, they all will take some wire splicing.

Not afraid of doing some wiring, just need to find something that'll work with diesel AND the standard.

Will look at JC Whitney, thanks!

I'll suggest a 180 from what you want, and say get an Espar or a Webasto heater. Has a 7 day timer, 3 preset times, never need to plug in, kicks the fan on inside, and you'll never put a cold start on your engine. Plus, if your neighbours don't like diesels idling (especially when they go to high idle and kick off three cylinders), then there will be less complaints. They aren't cheap, but are so worth it.

There are very few companies that make them for a manual transmission. I've used Ultra Start and Compustar Pro. Compustar Pro is by far the best but expensive. If you buy the Canadian version you get the 5k ft range (yes it does work from that far I have one) DO NOT buy an automatic starter and bypass the safety switch to make it work. While you might remember to leave the truck out of gear other people probably won't and it's not worth it. With the manual version you CAN'T screw up and start it in gear, you'd have to do it intentionally by crawling out the window.

With the 6 speed you will need to get one that's integrated with an alarm system and on a 2002 the wait-to-start light is on a multiplex wire so it probably won't work as a trigger: you'll be stuck with the delay timer. I went through all this on my own truck. I've got a Black Widow brand remote start/alarm: It hasn't been hugely reliable and the remotes are $150 to replace.

It really is a great convenience though. Good luck.

I personally wouldn't put a remote start on a manual truck. In the winter, I don't use my parking brake at all as they have a tendency to freeze up. I think it's more trouble than it's worth...just my .02 cents...
