Question about First Truck

Hey everybody, got a newbie question here. So I've been reading lots of post trying to learn as much as I can about these trucks, but I'm still kinda nervous to buy my first one.

Here's the truck that I'm looking at:

For Sale: 96 Dodge Ram EX cab 2500 4x4 Auto Cummins Turbo Diesel
-Cummins Engine is turned up w/ Banks Power pak 32 psi boost. Larger injectors, and the lift pump is turned up.
-Auto meter boost and pyro gauges in special pillar mount pods.
-power everything
-new steering links, tie rod ends, steering box and stabilizer shock.
-heavier duty NP 241 DHD transfer case
-aftermarket aluminum rims
- 4” exhaust.
-posi rear end.
-new tranny cooler lines, filter and fluid.
-nice cloth interior.
-After market CD player and speakers
- trailer brake controller
203,000 miles (just broke in for a diesel!)
Asking $9,000

They guy doesn't know what kind of injectors are in it and didn't do the mods himself, he bought it that way. He also doesn't know if the trans was upgraded to handle the mods. Also he says there is a shimmy at 70mph.

This is what he says about it: "the only thing that might need to be replaced is possibly the track bar. i have a luke's link kit on the track bar right now, but i think it would be better to just get a new bar. there is a slight shimmy at 70 mph. within the past year i have replaced all of the steering arms and tie rod ends, and i put a new steering box on in november. i thought the new components would cure the shimmy, but it hasnt. it's not bad
though, and doesnt keep me from driving it
"

Should I be concerned? What should I look for?

i would worry more about the shape of that tranny !! thats way more power than the oem should handle. i would wright the vin # down and run it through your nearest dodge dealership. if that tranny is a factory one....i wouldnt buy it unless you remove the banks kit.

but thats just my opinion.

I've loked at that truck. Prety nice. The trans should hold but I would keep a good eye on it. If you have the spare cash put into it. Good luck on the Buy!

What's this number mean

So i got the VIN number and Carfax and the Dodge dealer couldn't give me any info on the tranny. I also got this number off the tranny, but don't know what info it can give me - 2 PK5211843727016765

Anybody know how i can use this info to find out more about the tranny?

Thanks

I second that motion

Banks stuff, take it from me, is not very agressive, but with the larger injectors and so forth then id worry about it. You might also wanna see to make sure that KDP is killed, if he dont know what a KDP is, then id say u best just kill it. The front end is an issue on these trucks as well. The truck sounds nice, but kinda pricey for 203K miles, id offer 7500 max and see if he comes down, especially if the tranny is a weaker link, id offer even less, and fix it up.. I used to have a full on banks powerpack, and yes 32 psi of boost is about the max for an auto, with my manual i can get about 40PSI im guessin, boost guage only reaches 30 but real easily. The only thing i like about the powerpack, is the 14CM exhaust housing, that, the gauges and badges are all that is left from my banks kit. the rest is in the toolbox or has been sold or traded.

good luck and hope all goes well

Rick
