performance

Have a 99 24 Cummings
Would like to do some mods to it... I heard 4" silver line exhaust and s&b dry filter would give me 50 or so extra horse ..

I do not want anything crazy just a little more jam...
I am not liking the sound of the silver line exhaust... I like the diamond eye exhaust, is it any good?

Any ideas on whats better ...
And what would brand of muffler would give me the most air flow ?
thanks

Better throw in some seat supports too!!

Seriously, you may see 5 hp or so by opening things up with an exhaust and intake, and probably won't feel it, just hear it.

If you want more grunt you will need more fuel, better timing, more air for that fuel (boost) which can lead to strengthening the head bolts and wallet!

Adjusting the valves on your 99 may add some kick too, for starters.

An exhaust and an intake are a good place to start, but you won't get the performance they claim unfortunately, however a freer breathing Cummins is a happy Cummins...

Ditto.
even tho these companies that have intakes, intake elbows, exhaust Claim that they give you 30-50HP and 20-40 Tq. and they may actually have gotten that on a "special" dyno-mo-Bob.. But there are so many variables with a dyno to create phantom numbers. also every truck is differant. a manual vs a auto , Gears in the rear end all of these things can fetch diff HP/TQ gains from a stock truck that just had intake and exhaust changed out.

I would recommend you go on you-tube and look up a 2nd gen cummins 4" exhaust type it just like that. also a 5" exhaust. you can hear good clips and see what brands sound best to you. i would say if you do alot of driving freeway or around 55mph. you likely would not like drone sound that can be found in some kits. you can also create your own kit too. I bought my complete exhaust kit from sourceautomotive.biz and used Rip the owner his value line of tubing. all hardware/hangers etc. and it was around 270$ this was a 5" with no muffler.

you can always send a email to the DTR store on here and ask if they have things like a scratch and dent exhaust for your year. or anything that is on sale. etc.. They wont do you wrong.

some folks leave the same size pipe on as stock since they are not going to put alot of extra go fast parts on it. and just cut off the stock restrictive muffler and put on just a through design one from like diamond eye etc.

search donaldson mufflers too. they are a good favorite with members on here too. good flow and not to aggressive on sound.

The aftermarket industry does a great job of misleading the consumer. Diesel engines and gasoline engines respond to performance items in different ways. Without going into lengthy details, diesel engines generally ONLY build power when you add fuel. With the 24 valve trucks thats easy to do but doing so also causes the exhaust temp to rise which can be bad if not monitored. So more free flowing exhaust systems and/or cold intake systems are needed to offset the EGT heat generated by that increase in fuel. In short.....aftermarket exhaust systems offer little to no HP gains. Same applies to cold air intake systems. If you want some easy pick-me-up HP then look at some mild timing boxes like the Edge EZ. 60 hp and 180 lbs of torque will definitely change you're opinion on driving your truck. But just know that with adding power devices will require attention to things like gauges and quality fuel pumps.
