Ok my compass works on the overhead console, but the Temp readout is not working at all, if it does work, it usally reads -34F, which is toally wrong. Where in the truck can I find where to fix it, or do I just need to buy a new console.

 

It's probably just the sensor, it may even be unplugged.
On your '97 the sensor is on the radiator mount almost behind the driver's side headlight.
