hey guys,, i'm wantin to know what years would be the best to look for in a 24 valve, something that i can bomb fairly easily and still be drivable, anyone got any ideas on what i can do to the truck??? i'm a college student on a budget so one thing at a time,, but i still wanna take care of the frat boys in their ricer'oni's,, they think their fast
i wanna blow some nice smoke on them and then stomp em too
also wanna know if anyones tryed a kore suspension??

Hey man I'm in your shoes too. In college and on a budget. Go for a 12v. They are by far the easiest to work on and def. BOMB out. My Has a big lift and tires and will still smoke out a ricer easy. Plus I spent way less than buying a 24v stock. Just look and see what is around, 5sp. is the best IMO for its strenth. A bit slower than an auto on thw 1/4 mile but that depends on how hard you slam the gears. Just keep an eye on the classifieds on here and other sites and you'll find a great truck.

I love the sound of either of those b5.9 "big C" engines because they both just keep running, and running and running, and running, and running, and running... (Energizer bunny smilie with big "C" on drum goes here)
12V or 24V, each has their own pathways of BOMBing. it don't matter, the're still so blooming reliable... They'll have you doing this.

12V have more of a big-rig sound to them-- it's quite distinct.
24V is louder, especially the HOs like mine.
24 Makes a much better street rig, as the electronics will let the truck be a lot more driveable at a given HP level. 24Vs will smoke less.
The dynamic timing of the 24V is a HUGE advantage that the 12V just can't overcome.

This is the first time that the smoke issue has been brought up, don't get me wrong, I love a black cloud as much as the next guy, but constant smoke is BAD. And the 24v is hands down better in the smoke department. And I agree that general street manners are nicer with the 24v.
Still don't wanna go back to having all those extra valves again.

4000 is old newsNow i agree with the 12V folk here, but its through biasness from my own experience...
Not sayin a 24V is a bad truck.... i just like to tinker with my ride with hand tools rather than plug in a box... and no VP44
