need help with new truck

Ok i have the 04 still and am about to start my search for a 2nd gen. i want a 3500 DRW 4x4 but not sure if money will let me get something that good. anyways my question is what are somethings to look at when looking at 2nd gen. i will be looking at both 12 and 24 valve i know some basic things but i was wanting to know if there are things that i would need to make sure to look at.

and if anyone has one that i could pick up for 5 to 7K let me know

Thanks,
Eric

On a 2nd gen 24v you want to check the fuel pressure. The Lift pump and VP44 (injection pump) are known to have problems in some trucks. See if it has the lift pump mounted on the block (under and behind the fuel filter housing) or if its not there then its in the tank, if the truck is still stock. I know my 02 you can check for engine codes by flipping the key on and off a few times. I dunno what other years that will work on though.
