OK,,,,, I got one for ya guys,,,,<br> DD4x4 asked me about a single black wire with a eyelet on one end and the other end going into the wiring harness under the hood. It's located by the power distribution box (with all the fuses in it) on the driver's side inner fender. I've got the same wire on my 99 as well as every other truck we've looked at (99-00). So far, Keith (Rammin On) is the only one we've seen that is hooked up (grounded to the fender). The wire is just hanging around unhooked on the rest of the trucks. <br> Keith,,,, you were going to check on this in the book for us,,,,,, remember? ,,,,, yeah we know,,,, you're sooo busy.<br> So what is the wire for? ???<br>

 

Can't answer your question, however my 01.5 has the same wire and it's not connected to anything either.

 

OK ..... I've buried myself looking for an answer to the mystery wire ..... and guess what?????? It remains a mystery ..... I did however find that it could be one of the following:<br><br>Lift pump ground<br>fuel heater ground<br>grid heater relay ground <br><br>I guess the only way to relly find out .... unless someone else knows ... is to strip the loom and follow it to it's component ....<br><br>Oh well ....

Mine has it too (96) I think it has something to dowith the camper special package. My camper wiring that is in the bed is dead. I don't use it but the dealer said I had to hook it up under the hood??? Maybe ???

 

I had a cable (black) that was disconnected as described. Measured resistance and found it was an additional ground for the trailer plug. <br>Warning: Don't suppose it's the same thing for your truck, mine has been modified for European lighting. <br><br>AlpineRAM

 

When some of us were talking about it at a get-together, we wondered if it might have something to do with the snow-plow option. This was the only option that none of us had.<br> I guess it's not that important,,, we just thought it was kind of weird!

 

Don't quote me on this, but i think it is used for trailers with ABS,or something on the trailer that will require constant power. And so the mystery continues!!

 

I just hate I had to bring that mystery wire up. Now everyone is pondering the diesel truck worlds greatest mystery, what is the mystery wire, instead of dealing with the lesser issues like world peace, global warming, hunger, and all that stuff. I just went out and checked mine. I have the ABS and the trailer package . I didn't see any wire that was lose. There was one black wire, about a 10 or 8 gauge that came out of the side of the box and into the harness loom. Now what?<br><br>..Preston..

I found a mystery wire on my 96 CTD. It was dangling behind the leftside battery. It was a blk 8-10 ga. with a broken terminal. It was a ground wire connected under the front bumper. I could not fine where it connected. I finally checked a friend's 96 CTD and his was connected to the negative battery post. I connected mine there. It has corrected my cruise control which had been acting rather sluggish and it has caused my ABS/Brake to not turn on as often as it used too. Still turns on occasionally. My neg. battery terminal was completely corroded.

 

The wire we found on about 7 different trucks, had never been hooked to anything. I think that 5 of the 7 were 99's and 2 were 00's. ???

 

Well, just to complicate things just a bit, My `98 does have the tow package and ABS and YES, I have seen that very same wire. The plot thickens!
