First off has anyone had taillights melt the inner plastic shield? I bought cheap jank aftermarket lights around 5 months ago and they just melted. I am horrible with electrical stuff. Does this sound like a short? Or just cheap jap engineering? Also how do you check for a short of that sort?

 

Where did you buy them? I need to get taillights & want to make sure I DON'T get those. That happened to the third brake light on my cap shell until I figured out they put too high a wattage bulbs in it. Doesn't sound like a short but maybe a bad connection with too much resistance that heats up when current is pulled through it by the bulbs - maybe cheap socket or wrong bulbs? Steve

 

Bad grade of plastic. If it were an electrical problem, the wires would be burned.

If they exchange them for you, put LED bulbs in

 

I bought the tailights off of ebay..They were only like 30 bucks for both with free shipping..I guess you get what you pay for so this time I did order the expensive led's..I also thought the wires would be burnt or the base of the bulb would be discolored but that is not the case..it appears the plastic just melted..thanks for the input!
