Low fuel light, how many gallons

I recently ran out of fuel because the gauge or low fuel light did not work. Now it seems to be working. But i have wondered how many gallons are left when the low fuel light comes on? My truck takes 25-26 gallons when i fill up quickly after the light. Does this seem about normal? How many gallons does my tank hold from empty? It is a short wheel base.

34 gallon tank.

Fuel light is designed to go off with 6-8 gallons or so, as the VP44 is cooled by fuel and anything less than 6-8 going to be quite hot.

my light comes on when i have 34 gallons left, it dont work so good. your sending unit needs to be changed just because it started working dosnt mean it works. better than being left stranded somewhere

I can't remember if it's the light or DTE=0, but one of them is supposed to signify 8% of your tank left, per the owner's manual...something about allowing their customers towing heavy loads in rural areas, blah, blah, blah, ad nauseum. (Sorry, not in a good mood, and the owner's manual is out in the truck! )

Same here. Usually takes about 26-28 gallons with 36 gal. tank.

My light comes on at an eighth tank. When the light comes on, I usually only put in 90-100 litres. Tank is 140 or so litres, so that leaves a good amount of fuel there yet.

I just did exactly this, I filled it as soon as the low fuel light came on, took 28.6 Gal to fill the 34 gal. tank.
